Backstory
Born into a family who never wanted her, Stacey learned the harsh realities of the world from a young age. Tossed from Foster Home to Foster Home, there was always something that went wrong. She was too needy for one family. Another just wanted some extra food stamps. Another 'family' liked to get aggressively drunk most nights. None lasted long. The longest she ever stayed with one family lasted about seven months.
They were.... nice, compared to the others. A mother, a father, and a sister, the biological child to both. They only wanted the best for her. Or at least that's what they made her believe. In truth she was never good enough for them. It was always "Your grades could be better" or "Can't you be more polite?". The inadequacies only became more apparent as the months passed. They started comparing her more and more to her 'sister', their criticisms turning to her appearance. "If only you could have your sisters pretty eyes.". "I'm sure you'll grow into your nose, eventually.". "No dessert for you, Stacey. We don't want you to be giant next to your sister.". It got to the point where Stacey could no longer take the abuse, running away at the age of 15.
Young, homeless, lonely, she was lost. Why couldn't she have been like her 'sister'? Why couldn't her life be easy? The thoughts would always run through her mind, constantly, as she scrounged for food, day after day. Until eventually it hit her. What separated her from the other kids her age, the 'popular' ones? Not all of them were born rich, so it wasn't that. Not all were attractive either. It was simply how they carried themselves. They believed in themselves, believed that they were worth everyone's attention. And so that's how she decided to live from that day on.
It wasn't easy in the beginning. People would call her delusional. Would say she was compensating for lack of love. All true, perhaps. But she kept at it, and eventually, her fantasy became a reality. In more ways than one.
At first, her mind had gone to aliens. A ship, or at least she had thought, crashed near her makeshift 'home' for the night, landing in a nearby Freight Yard. Curious, Stacey had went over to inspect it. And that was when it happened. The switch. Later she would learn there had been an explosion at a nearby STAR Labs facility, a Super-Villain attack, debris scattered all over. But it didn't matter at that point, she'd already been.... imbued with the powers.
It took her a while to figure them out. In fact she's still learning. But none of that mattered. Now she had power. Power to help, sure. But more than that. She had the power to never feel like that lost, abandonded girl ever again.
